The President of the Regional Government of the Azores, José Manuel Bolieiro, welcomed today the Minister for Infrastructure and Housing, João Galamba, for the interest shown in verifying on-site the damage caused by bad weather to the Lajes das Flores Port.

Speaking to journalists at the end of a visit to the Lajes das Flores port, José Manuel Bolieiro stressed that this insight into “reality,” outside the office, confirmed the “importance of what is really at stake.”

“There is a commitment from the Regional Government to support the costs arising from the mitigation of the damage caused by Hurricane Lorenzo. The Minister confirmed that this aid will be granted. We are now working to speed up the process,” the President of the Government said, praising the “personal commitment” shown by João Galamba on the matter.

“I believe we are following the right path,” noted José Manuel Bolieiro. In this context, he recalled that the “solidarity” of the State and the European Union itself must take into account possible new storms, as was already the case with the Efrain depression.

At the invitation of the Government of the Azores, Minister João Galamba is visiting the region today and Monday: after a day on the island of Flores, the minister, accompanied by the President of the Regional Government, will visit on Monday the Ponta Delgada Port on the island of São Miguel.
