The President of the Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, stressed today that the political project of this government has housing as a “cornerstone” of integration and promotion of citizenship.

The “success” in employability and education are assets that decent housing carries with it, defended the President of the Government. He spoke after attending, together with the Vice-President, Artur Lima, the signing ceremony of the works contract for the installation of infrastructures in the Santa Clara neighbourhood, municipality of Ponta Delgada.

Although the financial component of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) dedicated to housing in the Azores is “meagre,” as set out by the previous government, it is possible to find solutions, with “strategic wisdom, management and optimisation of resources, namely with local authorities to ensure “more and better housing supply.”

Local power is, in a democracy, “the closest link between citizens and political decision-makers.” As José Manuel Bolieiro defended, it is possible to increase housing in the Azores “at prices compatible with family income” or with true social welfare support, which guarantees people the right to housing.

At today’s session, José Manuel Bolieiro also offered words of confidence to the autonomous regional administration works within the social and housing area. On the occasion, he reiterated the “political and doctrinal model” of the current Government of the Azores towards a “true social inclusion, promoting individuals and families.”

The Vice-Presidency of the Azores Regional Government has awarded the works contract for the installation of infrastructures in the Santa Clara neighbourhood, municipality of Ponta Delgada, to the company Albano Vieira S.A. The works have an estimated cost of €464,406.01.

The intervention includes the construction of roads, water supply systems, rainwater and wastewater drainage infrastructures, and the installation of public lighting and telecommunications networks.

The works have a completion period of 180 days and will create the necessary conditions for the construction of 22 new dwellings in the parish of Santa Clara.

The works contract is expected to comply with the energy performance targets set out under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP).

With this investment, the Vice-Presidency of the Regional Government intends to increase the public housing offer by means of affordable rental and the lease with purchase option scheme. It is a clear effort to counter the increase in housing costs for Azorean families.
