The Regional Secretary for Youth, Vocational Training and Employment congratulated Rodrigo Diogenes and Diogo Fructuoso as well as the “Aprender a Viver” Youth Association (AJAV) for winning the European Year of Youth – EYY 2022 awards, an initiative promoted by the Portuguese Institute for Sports and Youth (IPDJ).

“The mobilisation of young people and associations, on the one hand, and the results achieved, on the other hand, are a source of pride for the Region. Azorean youth has responded positively to the challenge of thinking about Europe and building a better future: greener, more inclusive and digital,” said Maria João Carreiro.

Rodrigo Diogenes was the regional winner of the “Criarte EYY 2022” Award in the 12-17 age group with the illustration work designated as “OMA – Mobile Arts Workshop” under the theme “Exchange of Learning, Solidarity and Art.”

Aimed at young people aged between 12 and 35, the “Criarte EYY 2022” award sought to promote and stimulate literary or artistic creation alluding to the European Year of Youth, rewarding the most creative and innovative works.

Diogo Fructuoso was the regional winner of the “Criarte EYY 2022” in the 18-25 age group with the dance and painting project designated as “The Azores are with Ukraine” under the theme “Solidarity with Ukraine.”

In turn, the “Aprender a Viver” Youth Association  (AJAV) was the regional winner of the “Europe for you EYY 2022” Award with the project designated as “Inclus’Art Application.”

The “Europe for you EYY 2022” Award distinguished the youth associations that stood out for the activities developed in 2022 in the context of the European Year of Youth.

The award-delivery ceremony will take place at the national closing session of the European Year of Youth that will take place in Guimarães on February 26 as part of the National Youth Meeting.

The European Year of Youth was celebrated in 2022, as proposed by the European Commission and approved by the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament.

The Regional Secretariat for Youth, Vocational Training and Employment, through the Regional Directorate for Youth, provided last year exceptional support, designated as “Join in,” under the Youth Associations Incentive Programme (PIAJ), to encourage the participation of young Azoreans in the celebrations of the European Year of Youth.
