NEW’S | New Hilton hotel is crucial to development of international reputation of the Azores, says Duarte Freitas
The Regional Secretary for Finance, Planning and Public Administration, Duarte Freitas, took part on Wednesday in the opening of the new Double Tree by Hilton Hotel in the municipality of Lagoa.
“Having a Hilton hotel in the Azores is a sign that the Region is part of an immense distribution network, with a range of different types of market, which boosts the visibility of the Azores among high value-added target groups,” he emphasised on the occasion.
With about 200 beds, this new hotel on São Miguel Island has provided opportunities for employment creation, business development and increased local economic value.
Representing an investment of more than 21 million Euros, this new hotel received support from the Regional Government under the incentive systems and the CONTRATAR hiring support measure.
The Hilton Group is active in more than 120 countries, with more than 7,500 hotels and 24 differentiated brands and experiences worldwide.
Duarte Freitas points out that the Azores had their best year ever in 2023, with more than 3.8 million overnight stays and record hotel revenue of about 158 million Euros.
According to Duarte Freitas, “these are increases of 14.4% in overnight stays and 23% in hotel revenue compared to 2022.” Compared to 2019, there is an increase of almost 30% in overnight stays and more than 50% in revenue.
