NEW’S | Mother language literary contest for immigrants residing in the Azores
The Presidency of the Regional Government, through the Regional Directorate for the Communities and in partnership with SATA Azores Airlines, is promoting the “Saudades da Terra” literary contest in the area of immigration. The initiative is part of the International Mother Language Day celebrations, observed annually on February 21.
Aimed at all immigrants residing in the Region, this initiative aims to promote interculturality and encourage a deeper knowledge of the different communities and nationalities in the archipelago, through the writing of literary texts in their mother language that convey their perspective about the Azores.
Participants should submit original and unpublished texts in any literary genre presenting their personal perspective on the host society. They must be at least 18 years of age.
The jury of the “Saudades da Terra” contest is made up of writer Pedro Almeida Maia, poet Eleonora Marino Duarte and journalist Paulo Simões.
The winner will be awarded an air ticket for two people from any regional airport to all destinations operated by SATA Azores Airlines.
Applications must be submitted by April 21, 2023, using the appropriate form, to the email address saudadesdaterra.drc@azores.gov.pt.
The rules, application forms and other relevant information are available for consultation on the website of the Regional Directorate for the Communities on the Regional Government portal at www.azores.gov.pt.
The International Mother Language Day was proclaimed by UNESCO in 1999 and subsequently recognised by the UN in 2002, with the aim of protecting and safeguarding all the languages spoken in the world, honouring cultural traditions and respecting linguistic diversity.
