NEW’S | Maria João Carreiro received in audience President of the Portuguese Bar Association

The Regional Secretary for Youth, Housing and Employment, Maria João Carreiro, received in audience, on behalf of the President of the Regional Government, João Massano, President of the Portuguese Bar Association.
The audience for the exchange of greetings took place today at the Conceição Palace in Ponta Delgada, after the celebration of the 99th anniversary of the Portuguese Bar Association at the Teatro Micaelense this Thursday. This is also the day that the members of the Azores Regional Council of the Portuguese Bar Association, elected for the 2025/2027 period, will be sworn in tonight, also in Ponta Delgada.
On the occasion, the government official welcomed the selection of the Azores for the celebration of the Association’s anniversary, wishing that the 100th anniversary could also be held in the Region.
Maria João Carreiro congratulated the Regional Council of the Portuguese Bar Association, represented by its President, Rosa Ponte, on the election. She stressed the role of the Bar Association in the defence of the Rule of Law and fundamental rights, particularly concerning legality, citizenship and democratic balance, which makes the Bar Association an important player in the dialogue with public authorities.
As head of the Vocational Training Department, she listed several measures aimed at encouraging and supporting the transition of recent graduates into the labour market, including the legal sector, as well as young professionals, with measures to support professional traineeship programmes and stable employment.
Maria João Carreiro also reiterated her interest in deepening institutional cooperation in areas that fall under her administration. This could be achieved by involving the Bar Association in forums and consultations on legislation and public policies with a legal impact, or in seminars on interdisciplinary topics, such as the Azores Labour Law Days, an initiative promoted through the Regional Directorate for Vocational Training and Employment.
Alongside the President of the Portuguese Bar Association and the President of the Regional Council of the Portuguese Bar Association, the following representatives were present at the hearing: Paula Ponces Camanho, Vice-President of the General Council of the Portuguese Bar Association; Clélio Meneses, Member of the General Council of the Portuguese Bar Association; and Hélder Pimentel Medeiros, Vice-President of the Regional Council of the Portuguese Bar Association.
