HORTA | Drone testing was “truly significant” step for forward-looking Azores

The President of the Regional Government of the Azores, José Manuel Bolieiro, was at the Horta Airport on Wednesday during the testing of a UAVision drone, a “truly significant” moment for the “forward-looking” Azores.

“This is a small step, but truly a significant step towards a vision of the future, as the history and identity of the Azores deserve,” stressed the President of the Government.

In the context of the technological free zone in the Azores, these drones will provide “better assistance” and support, for example, in search and rescue operations or in matters pertaining to fishing.

“We are enhancing a line of technology. I am very pleased and grateful to all the institutions” that have worked towards this goal, he continued, before offering warm words to the former Chief of General Staff of the Portuguese Armed Forces (CEMGFA), Admiral Silva Ribeiro, and to the current Chief of General Staff of the Portuguese Armed Forces, Admiral Gouveia e Melo, “committed partners” from the very beginning.

“With partners like this, we can have ambition. We also have the necessary capabilities to achieve,” noted the President of the Government.

UAVision is a Portuguese company specialising in the production of unmanned systems with expertise in the fields of Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Mechanics, Aerospace and Information Technology.

The installation of the company on the island of Faial, through a protocol with the Maritime School, is an asset for this school, as it provides trainees with close contact with the aeronautics and robotics industry.

UAVision has extensive technical experience in different technologies thanks to its multidisciplinary team with qualifications in aeronautics, electronics, computing, mechanics and composite materials.
