FAIAL | Regional Government signs funding contract for project to expand Horta airport
The President of the Regional Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, and the Regional Secretary for Tourism, Mobility and Infrastructures, Berta Cabral, signed today an ARAAL contract with the Horta City Council, represented by its Mayor, Carlos Ferreira, with the aim of providing financial support for the preparation of the implementation project for the expansion of the Horta airport runway.
“This Government is involved in the solution, while others have just simply avoided being part of the solution. We got down to work,” stressed the President of the Government, José Manuel Bolieiro.
The contract now signed provides for a financial contribution of 800 thousand Euros, corresponding to 40% of the global investment planned for this process, which amounts to two million Euros, as was announced in due course by the President of the Government.
“The responsibility lies with the State, the airport is under concession to ANA/VINCI, but we are making this contribution as part of the implementation project,” stressed José Manuel Bolieiro.
“This is a commitment we have made to the City Council and to the people of Faial, which we will fulfil without any hesitation, as has been the hallmark of our conduct,” said the Regional Secretary for Tourism, Mobility and Infrastructures.
Berta Cabral emphasised that “we always honour our word.”
“This is yet another example of understanding and cooperation between the regional public administration and local authorities, aimed not only at improving the quality of life on the various islands but also, in this particular case, at a strategic investment for the entire Region and its Atlantic dimension,” she added.
The expansion of the Horta airport runway is essential to ensure the pursuit of the principle of territorial continuity and mobility of people and goods.
