AZORES | SRPCBA celebrates World Civil Defence Day


The Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service (SRPCBA) will mark the World Civil Protection Day on March 1 with an event that will bring together various civil protection agents and entities at the Terceira Island Multisectoral Park in Angra do Heroísmo.

During the event, several civil protection agents and entities will promote activities in spaces and stands that will include demonstrations, display of equipment and promotion of awareness-raising and information actions in different areas. They are intended to stimulate and instil the adoption of safety practices among the population, contributing to risk prevention and reduction of effects.

In addition to the SRPCBA, the activities will be also developed by the following entities: the Angra do Heroísmo and Praia da Vitória Fire Brigades, the Angra do Heroísmo and Praia da Vitória Municipal Civil Protection Services, the Azores Air Zone Command, the Azores Maritime Zone Command, the Azores Military Zone Command, the Public Security Police, the National Republican Guard, the Portuguese Red Cross, the Regional Directorate for Health, the Regional Directorate for Housing, the Regional Directorate for Communications and Digital Transition and the Regional Directorate for Social Solidarity, the Zello Azores group, the Praia da Vitória Amateur Radio Association, and the São Mateus Local Civil Protection Unit.

The World Civil Defence Day, established by the International Civil Defence Organisation, is annually marked on March 1. It seeks to draw the attention of countries to the importance of civil protection, specifically with regard to prevention and the coordination of efforts in the event of a major accident or disaster.

The celebrations of the World Civil Defence Day are open to the population in general and will take place between 9:30 am and 4:30 pm.

Simultaneously, several activities marking the occasion will take place at various fire stations throughout the region. They will be open to the community.
