The amendment to the ordinance regulating the working conditions of professional firefighters and firefighters working for the Humanitarian Associations of Volunteer Firefighters in the Azores has already been published in the Official Journal.

With this amendment, an 8% increase over the minimum wage, as applicable in the Azores, is planned for 2023, based on the amount agreed upon for the beginning of the career and the increase in the wage difference between categories. It will also maintain the existing difference between salary levels provided for in the current ordinance

According to the Regional Secretary for Health and Sport, “we are continuing the work carried out by the Regional Government towards the professional enhancement of firefighters in the Region in fulfilling this commitment,” which, according to Mónica Seidi, will have “retroactive effect from January 1, 2023.”

“This commitment will have to be discussed in the Council of Government, but it is our intention that it will be possible to transfer funds from the Regional Government to the Firefighters’ Associations in the near future,” she said.

This amendment will increase the salary of more than 450 firefighters in the Azores.
