The Regional Secretary for Health and Social Security, Mónica Seidi, met today with the Board of Directors of the Terceira Island Health Unit (USIT), where she announced that the general practitioner coverage rate on the island stands at 92%, exceeding 90% for the first time.

On this occasion, the government official presided over a ceremony for the signing of contracts with three doctors specialising in General and Family Medicine, with two of them assigned to Praia da Vitória, which will have a coverage rate of 94%, and one to Angra do Heroísmo, where the rate is now at 90%.

“We currently have 12 interns in training, two of whom will complete their internship in 2026. We want to move forward with the recruitment procedure quickly, and later this year, we will launch another procedure for an intern who completed the training programme last week,” stated Mónica Seidi.

The Regional Secretary also highlighted the increase in healthcare activity in Terceira, with progress in areas such as medical consultations, nursing consultations, physiotherapy sessions and X-ray tests.

As part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP), the government official also announced that 17 vehicles will be purchased for the USIT, representing an investment of nearly € 1 million aimed at improving local care services.
