NEW’S | Vice-President of the Government announces works contract for construction of 39 dwellings in Nossa Senhora de Fátima neighbourhood
The Vice-President of the Regional, Artur Lima, chaired today the ceremony launching the public tender for infrastructure, demolition and construction of 39 dwellings in the Nossa Senhora de Fátima neighbourhood, Praia da Vitória, an investment of 7.7 million Euros funded under the RRP.
” This is a historic day for Praia da Vitória and for the residents of this neighbourhood, which was built in the 1970s,” he said.
With this project, the “final phase of the conversion of the Joaquim Alves Neighbourhood into the Nossa Senhora de Fátima Neighbourhood” is underway, which will ” restore the quality of this housing development.”
Following the public tender launched today, the works contract will have a completion period of 540 days and a base price of €7,728,380, financed through component C2 of the RRP.
During the ceremony, Artur Lima noted that the “intervention in this neighbourhood reflects the difficulties experienced and the achievements made in implementing the RRP in the Azores.”
” When we first came here and delivered the first 24 dwellings of the 828 planned, we were unaware of the impact that too many years of negligence in housing policy would have on the entire implementation of the RRP,” he said.
He added: “When we took office, the dwellings in this neighbourhood were not registered with the tax office and the land registry office.”
According to the government official, this “prevented the registration of lease contracts with resident tenants and exchanges with landlords and, consequently, securing funding from the European Commission under the RRP.”
However, the “registration of the permits for the subdivision of 112 plots in the various phases of the neighbourhood project” was carried out under this Government, which “had never been done in the past.”
For the Vice-President of the Government, this public tender evidences an “accomplishment” rather than “a mere announcement.”
