NEW’S | Proposed Roadmap for Circular Economy in Regional Agroforestry Sector under public consultation until August 25
The proposed Roadmap for the Circular Economy in the Regional Agroforestry Sector is under public consultation until August 25, with a view to collecting suggestions and information to further improve the final document, informs the Regional Government, through the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Rural Development.
The proposal may be consulted on the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Rural Development page on the Regional Government Portal, under the Circular Economy tab, and contributions may be emailed to info.sradr@azores.gov.pt.
With a time horizon until 2035, the Roadmap was developed with the aim of fostering the transition and implementing a circular and innovative economic model in the fields of agriculture, animal husbandry and forestry and related industries, ensuring a more sustainable and responsible development in the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
The preparation process involved the consultation of several entities representing associations, cooperatives, agro-industries, municipalities, waste management companies, local action groups and micro-enterprises, among other public and private entities. More than a hundred contributions were collected, which contributed to the development of this document.
The promotion of the circular economy is a critical factor for development. It is particularly relevant in a limited, dispersed and insular territory, such as the Azores, where the scarcity of resources makes it absolutely necessary to find ways to reduce the need for material and energy flows as well as to ensure their circulation in the economy for as long as possible.
This initiative is part of the AGRILOOP project, a technical assistance project signed between CINEA, the European agency responsible for the management of the LIFE programme, and the Regional Government, through the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Rural Development. It provides technical assistance for the implementation of a LIFE project in the area of Circular Economy in the agricultural sector, with the aim of leveraging the funds made available to the public and private sectors by the European Community.
