The Regional Secretariat for Health and Sport, through the Regional Directorate for Sport, is promoting the second edition of the “Azores Sports Film,” which will be held this year on the islands of Faial, Pico and São Jorge, on April 26, 27 and 28, respectively, in partnership with UESPT Portugal (Union Européenne du Sports pour Tous), as part of the Lisbon Sport Film Festival.

This initiative aims to continue projecting the archipelago of the Azores abroad as well as to further promote the dissemination and development of sport in the Region.

This initiative also aims to increasingly encourage the integration of sport into other areas of society, such as education and the social component of the activity.

The “Azores Sports Film Festival 2023” includes five screenings sessions of films that were featured in the 2022 edition of the Sports Film Festival – Lisbon Sport Film Festival, with one session aimed at school students, scheduled for the morning, and another for the public in general, scheduled for the evening; admission is free for all sessions.

The first general session will take place at Teatro Faialense (Faial), on April 26, at 8:30 pm, with the screening of the films: “Jogo de Ilusões” (directed by Lúcia Gonçalves – SIC – Television Show category), “Ouro Puro” (directed by Diogo Oliveira) “Valsa Bike” (Francisca Figueiredo – Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa Award – Young Directors with Mobile Phone), “Subida da Rampa do Vale de Santo António” (directed by Joana Figueiredo) and “Pelas Fontinhas com Amor” (directed by Maria Inês Pedroso, Tiago Moreira and Sandro Vieira – Canal 11).

The same films will be screened at the Madalena Municipal Auditorium (Pico) on April 27, at 9 pm, and on the following day, April 28, at the Velas Municipal Auditorium(São Jorge) at 8:30 pm.

After the screening of the films, there will be a talk under the theme “Me, in sport,” also on the three islands, which is intended to provide an insight into the vision and the paths of the personalities invited to be part of a panel to discuss relevant topics of sports, social and cultural interest.

This initiative of the Regional Directorate for Sport has the partnership of the Horta City Council, Madalena Town Council, Velas Town Council, Calheta Town Council, Lajes do Pico Town Council and São Roque Town Council.

The Lisbon Sport Film Festival is the only film festival in Portugal focusing on Sport in its wide range of activities as well as on its social and cultural aspects.

The event has as its main goal the promotion, dissemination, reflection and recognition of world sports cinematography.
