The President of the Regional Government of the Azores, José Manuel Bolieiro, opened today the redevelopment works of Ribeira da Vinha Brava stream in Angra do Heroísmo, which will reduce the impact of the rainfall in the city and “prevent other types of problems.”

“We have carried out an intervention to channel the water upstream and downstream in a controlled manner. It is true that climate change is generating extreme natural phenomena with greater frequency, but also the urban changes that have taken place disturb the normal course of the water,” he stressed.

In regard to this work, representing an investment of more than one million Euros, the President of the Government said: “As far as Civil Protection and we are concerned, whenever there is a storm and nothing happens to the population, we will remember the importance of this work.”

“The effectiveness and efficiency of this work will prevent potential problems,” stressed José Manuel Bolieiro.

During the ceremony, the President of the Government was accompanied by the Regional Secretary for the Environment and Climate Change, Alonso Miguel, and the Regional Secretary for Tourism, Mobility and Infrastructures, Berta Cabral.
