NEW’S | Upgrading of Lajes das Flores Cold Storage Unit consolidates investment in economy of the sea, says President of the Government
The President of the Regional Government of the Azores, José Manuel Bolieiro, opened on Monday the upgrading of the Lajes das Flores Cold Storage Unit, an investment of about 750 thousand Euros that consolidates the focus on the economy of the sea as a “projection for the future” and sustainability.
Recalling that last year the exported fish generated “revenue exceeding 37 million Euros,” the President of the Government reiterated the role that Lotaçor – which has a new administration board – should have.
“Lotaçor should be at the service of shipowners and fishers and not impose itself on shipowners and fishers in an arbitrary way,” said José Manuel Bolieiro.
“Good conditions for the freezing and storing of fish,” as those that will now be provided in Lajes das Flores, secure that “added value is being created” for regional products, in particular seafood products.
The Regional Government has been on the island of Flores since Monday as part of a statutory visit.
After the meetings held on the first day with the municipalities of Lajes and Santa Cruz and the meeting of the Island Council, the Council of the Government will meet today. Furthermore, there are several events scheduled for today.
