The President of the Regional Government of the Azores, José Manuel Bolieiro, received in audience the President of the Portuguese Economists’ Association, António Mendonça, who, while visiting the Region, reiterated to the new Government the willingness of this association to collaborate in areas such as the issuance of technical opinions, for example.

António Mendonça also took the opportunity to greet José Manuel Bolieiro, now President of the XIV Regional Government of the Azores.

The Azores office of the Portuguese Economists’ Association is headed by Francisco Bettencourt, who attended the meeting in Ponta Delgada accompanied by Camilo Moniz, a full member of the association in the Region.

On its website, the Association states that its mission is to fully assume its role as the public institution representing economists, advocating for the defence of specific training and the acknowledgment of the economist qualification as a prerequisite for carrying out the duties of this occupation.

This entity should play an active role in the discussion of the country’s economic and social guidelines and be the voice of economists in political bodies as well as in public and private economic institutions. Furthermore, it should contribute to economic and social development, establishing the country in the European and global context.
