NEW’S | Mónica Seidi congratulates HDES Cardiology Department for introduction of new technique
The Divino Espírito Santo Hospital (HDES), in São Miguel, has introduced a new cardiology technique, the first of its kind in a hospital within the Regional Health Service (SRS). This technique involves the closure of the ‘patent foramen ovale,’ a channel connecting the right and left cavities of the heart during foetal life.
This is a non-surgical procedure that reduces the risk of cardiac embolic events and strokes.
According to the Secretary for Health and Social Security, Mónica Seidi, “this is another service that, being at the service of the Azoreans, fulfils what continues to be one of the main motivations of the Regional Government: disease prevention.”
“It had already been a priority for the XIII Government and continues to be a priority for the XIV Government. As such, we will be able to ensure that SRS users receive treatment in the Region, without having to travel to Mainland Portugal, thus promoting proximity healthcare services,” she said.
