In the first half of 2024, the “Azores Fare” provided 163,616 round trips for residents between the nine islands, with SATA generating a turnover of €4,158,535.87, according to figures now released by the Regional Secretariat for Tourism, Mobility and Infrastructures, through the Regional Directorate for Mobility.

According to the same figures, there was a 5.4% increase in the number of trips compared to the same period in 2023, with an additional investment of €256,458.16.

Considering the same period last year, SATA grossed €3,902,077.71, which corresponds to 156,248 return trips within the archipelago.

There was also an increase in the number of tickets sold in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period last year – more than 5.38%.

The data now released also shows that São Miguel was the most sought-after island by passengers between January and June 2024 (35.23%), followed by Terceira (25.33%). Corvo and Flores were the least sought-after (0.87% and 3.97%, respectively).

The same happened between January and June 2023, when the most popular island was São Miguel (35.01%), followed by Terceira (25.63%). The islands with the lowest demand were Corvo and Flores (0.83% and 4.05%, respectively).

The “Azores Fare” was created in 2021 by the coalition Government with a maximum price of 60 Euros – round trip – for residents travelling within the archipelago.

According to the Regional Secretary, Berta Cabral, “this is one of the most successful measures of regional autonomy, as it leads to greater mobility of people and goods throughout the nine islands.”
