The Regional Secretariat for Youth, Vocational Training and Employment, through the Regional Directorate for Youth, marks next Saturday, August 12, the International Youth Day on Monte Verde Beach, in Ribeira Grande, under the theme of sustainability.

The event, starting at 11:30 am, aims not only to celebrate the energy and potential of young people but also to educate and involve them in the adoption of sustainable practices, in accordance with the theme “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World,” defined by the United Nations for this year’s celebration of International Youth Day.

Accordingly, the Regional Directorate for Youth is preparing a programme full of activities, fun and learning opportunities for young people who want to join the celebrations.

The day’s highlight will be ECOVIBES, at 11.30 am, through which participants will have the opportunity to explore how to bring together a passion for nature and sustainability in modern life. The activity will be promoted by Carolina Mendonça, coordinator of the Sustainability Management Structure – Azores.

With a view to raising awareness and informing about the best practices to adopt to safely enjoy Azorean beaches, the Costa Norte Lifeguards’ Association will hold an information session for all those attending the event.

For sports enthusiasts, there will be a beach handball tournament organised by the São Miguel Handball Association, providing an opportunity for young people to showcase their sporting skills. Each member of the winning team will also be awarded an Interjovem Card.

Music will also be in the spotlight with TÓJÓ’s DJ Set, creating a good atmosphere for young people and the activities that will be taking place.

Participation in these activities is not subject to registration, so all young people are invited to join this celebration of International Youth Day and be part of a movement that acknowledges the importance of young people in building a more sustainable future and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
