AZORES | President of the Government praises ANA/Vinci’s commitment to expanding Ponta Delgada airport
The President of the Regional Government of the Azores, José Manuel Bolieiro, praised today the commitment of ANA/Vinci, the concessionaire of João Paulo II Airport in Ponta Delgada, to expanding the infrastructure.
“I went into this meeting as President of the Government with a mission to defend the interests of the Azores with a strong commitment. I leave with positive feedback,” he stressed.
Accompanied by the Regional Secretary for Tourism and Infrastructures, Berta Cabral, the President of the Government of the Azores met this morning with the President of the Board of Directors of ANA/Vinci, José Luís Arnaut, among other officials.
As the concessionaire pointed out, the infrastructure will be expanded by four thousand square metres by 2027, an increase of 30% compared to the current capacity. There are other types of interventions, including structural ones and those to improve passenger comfort, planned for the short, medium and long term.
“What needs to be done will be done for this expansion,” emphasised José Manuel Bolieiro regarding the expansion of João Paulo II Airport.
“It is in the interest of the Azores to expand the airport,” he continued, pointing out that the fulfilment of commitments by ANA/Vinci is an expectation shared by the Government and all Azoreans.
The Regional Government’s “assertiveness” was acknowledged by José Luís Arnaut. In this regard, he recalled the constant increase in passengers and the necessary “good reputation” of Ponta Delgada airport “as the gateway to São Miguel and the Azores as an increasingly sought-after and prestigious destination.”
