The Government of the Azores begins today, January 30, a period of regional aid payments to Azorean farmers, which will continue until February 6, following the annual schedule agreed in 2025 between the President of the Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, and the President of the Azores Agricultural Federation, Jorge Rita.
This schedule aims to introduce information and predictability into the payment of regional aid, allowing farmers to plan the management of their farms and their financial commitments with greater certainty. Accordingly, for 2026, a first payment period has been set between January 30 and February 6, with further quarterly payments planned throughout the year.
This achievement represents a long-standing aspiration of the sector and reinforces a trend towards stability that has been evident in recent years, particularly with the end of apportionment in Community support. It should be noted that, since 2021, following a fair claim by the Azores Agricultural Federation, farmers have been receiving this support without cuts.
During this period, payments will begin for the following types of support:
• support for the purchase of maize and sorghum seeds – 2024;
• additional support for cattle slaughter in the context of COVID-19 – 2021;
• support for interest on investment in agriculture (SAFIAGRI) – 2023;
• support relating to climatic events – 2024;
• support for the slaughter of sheep and goats;
• support for the purchase of agricultural and livestock equipment (AGROACRESCENTA), for 2025;
• incentives for insemination for beef cattle production;
• payments made by IFAP, under PEPAC, for investment projects in the modernisation of farms, agribusiness and the LEADER programme.
